Why did I reject my CV?

Within minutes of the advert appearing for a copywriter position! candidates start sending their offers.  I only marked 6 of them for contact! and I invited 2 people for an interview. One did not show up! informing about illness! and the other was hired.

Why did so few copywriter candidates catch my attention?

  • Most of them did not meet the whatsapp number database requirements of the advertisement. People who have never worked in copywriting think that since they learned to write in school! that is enough to take up such a position. Unfortunately! no. Despite the fact that I indicated in the advertisement that I was looking for people with education in Polish philology! journalism or related! I also received offers from people with secondary education or completely different than I indicated.
  • Numerous errors! also in CV headings . The person who informed me about his extensive knowledge and experience had the most errors. For example! the heading was: “What he writes about!” instead of “I write.” There were a few more such flowers.
  • Presenting himself as a specialist! while at the same time contradicting himself in his arguments. For example! Mr. X had been passionate about writing for years! had published a lot of content that could only be seen on a blurry screen! and additionally boasted about running a blog! which according to him was the best confirmation of his skills. In his opinion! the blog was very popular! but after I checked it! it turned out that the traffic on it was close to zero.
  •
  • Lack of ability to list coherently and consistently format
  •  In my opinion! if someone uses three different formatting styles to write one page of content! they were not suited for the job I was offering.
  • No city of residence provided. I clearly stated that I was looking for people for stationary work! but according to the candidates! I guess we knew each other well enough that I should know which city they were from. 🙂 I was able to assess the area more or less! looking at employment and education. However! only a few provided a city. Even if you are applying for a remote or hybrid position! it is important for the employer to know where you live – whether it is far from the office. Sometimes there are trainings! business events and we want to know whether you are close or far away.
  • A tragic photo. True! you don’t judge people by their appearance! but when looking for an employee for work and taking them to training! I would like not to be ashamed of them. I received CVs with photos of women in blouses below their navels (although with a jacket)! with huge cleavages! with exaggerated make-up. Most of the photos were taken very poorly! as if for some Facebook profile! not for a CV. My first impression after seeing such photos was poor. 🙂

What signals in a copywriter’s CV cause a candidate to be quickly rejected?

  • An unprofessional email the best guide to gmail automation address  – e.g. “misiek123@…” may immediately put off the recruiter.
  • Lack of a clause on personal data processing  – CVs without it cannot be considered.
  • Employment gaps without explanation  – lack of information about career breaks raises doubts.
  • Too general job descriptions  – recruiters are looking for specifics! not generalities.
  • Too “creative” formatting  – the form can overshadow the content and make reading difficult.

CV form

The form of your CV is of great importance! austria business directory because it determines how quickly and easily a recruiter will find the information they need. The most important thing is a clear layout – too complicated formatting can discourage further reading. A simple! classic font! such as Arial or Calibri! works best ! because it is easy to read. When it comes to length! a one- or two-page CV is the optimal choice. Most recruiters will not spend time analyzing longer documents.

Creativity is an important element in the work of a copywriter! but a CV should be professional and legible. You can stand out with an original graphic design! but don’t overdo it – the form cannot overshadow the content.

Ready-made CV templates can be a great solution! but seriously! you can write your CV in Word and just format everything nicely.
