The Paris 2024 Olympics lead mentions on social media in the first months of the year, with 62%, according to a study by the Dentsu group

This summer, three major sporting events will be taking place in Europe, attracting the attention of hundreds of millions of viewers from all corners of the globe: UEFA EURO 2024 in Germany (14 June – 14 July), the Paris 2024 Olympic Games (26 July – 11 August) and the 17th Paralympic Games (28 August – 8 September), the latter also taking place in the French capital.
On the occasion of these events, the Insights department of the dentsu group has carried out an analysis of these and other competitions to see how fans follow them, as well as the lessons learned in previous editions of these events due to the connection of fans with brands and the relevance that advertisers have achieved with sports sponsorships.
According to the conclusions of the
May 2024 edition of the study Trends in sporting events , in Spain there are more than 19 million people who can be considered “Sports lovers”: 3 million are passionate about sports, practice several of them and attend all kinds of sporting events; 5 million are amateurs and although they do not attend these events so frequently, they practice sports regularly.
Finally, there are 10 million so-called “couch athletes” who do not play sports specific database by industry or attend events as much, but follow them from home with friends and family, as added in the press release from the Dentsu group .

However, she clarifies that “the sport that stands out most in the aleart news conversation about the Paris Olympics is football, followed by athletics. Men dominate the conversation and women have a greater presence in relation to the other competitions, with the most followed topics being those related to the qualification of athletes for the Olympics and countries.”
